To create a vertical open space from the main floor to the roof, we engineered a multi-layer roof beam system that allowed the architecture to open upward while maintaining full load capacity. Supporting this system required a custom-designed structural column on a dedicated footing, extending continuously from the basement to the highest point of the roof. This column was engineered to carry the cumulative loads of multiple beam layers across different elevations, allowing the structure to perform as a single, unified system.
In parallel, we designed and constructed a wide daylight shaft to bring natural light deep into the home, enhancing the open-concept living experience. Through careful structural coordination, we were able to minimize columns within the main living area, preserving clean sightlines, fluid movement, and a true sense of openness.
